A single Wi-Fi name does not have to mean every device lands on the same network. UniFi’s private pre-shared key feature can assign different passwords to one SSID and map each key to a VLAN or user group.
That can simplify onboarding for staff, guests and managed devices while preserving segmentation. It also reduces the temptation to create a confusing collection of network names.
The control needs careful design. Document who receives each key, restrict access between VLANs, rotate credentials when roles change, and test legacy compatibility. UniFi notes that PPSK currently depends on WPA2 compatibility, so settings must reflect the client mix. Convenience should support the network policy, not replace it.
