Google Forms now uses Gemini to automatically analyse your responses, spot patterns across questions, and suggest what to do next—so you spend less time in spreadsheets and more time acting on feedback. If you've ever collected survey data and thought "right, now what?", this update is for you.
What does Gemini actually do with your form responses?
When you open the Responses tab in Google Forms, Gemini can now generate a summary that goes beyond basic charts. It writes and runs Python code behind the scenes to calculate counts, percentages, and cross-question correlations from your actual data. Then it pulls out the key takeaways and—here's the useful bit—recommends specific next steps.
So instead of exporting to a spreadsheet and spending an hour building pivot tables, you get a readable summary that tells you things like "68% of respondents rated the session 'excellent', but satisfaction dropped among those who attended the afternoon slot."
What kinds of forms benefit most?
This works across different use cases, but it's particularly handy for:
- Event and product feedback – Quickly see what people valued and where you fell short
- Research surveys – Spot trends across dozens or hundreds of responses without manual analysis
- Registration and application forms – Get a clear breakdown of who's signing up
If you run quarterly staff surveys or collect customer feedback after a project wraps, this saves real time.
Which Google Workspace plans include this?
Not every licence gets access. Here's the breakdown:
| Plan type | Included editions |
|---|---|
| Business | Standard, Plus |
| Enterprise | Standard, Plus |
| Education | Education Plus, AI Pro for Education, Teaching and Learning add-on |
| Consumer | Google AI, Pro, Ultra |
If you're on Business Starter or a legacy plan, you won't see this feature. Worth checking with your admin or reviewing your current Workspace setup to see where you stand.
How do I turn this on?
- Ensure your admin has enabled smart features and personalisation in the Google Admin console
- Open any Google Form with collected responses
- Go to the Responses tab
- Look for the Gemini insights option in the side panel
That's it. No extra installation required—it's built into Forms.
Frequently asked questions
Does Gemini access my response data outside of my organisation?
Gemini analyses your data within Google's infrastructure using the same privacy and security controls that apply to your Workspace account. Your responses aren't used to train Google's AI models.
Can I edit or export the insights Gemini generates?
Yes. The summary appears in the side panel, and you can copy the text or use it as a starting point for reports. It doesn't replace your raw data—it sits alongside it.
What if I don't see the Gemini option?
Check that smart features and personalisation are enabled for your account, and confirm your Workspace edition includes Gemini capabilities. If both are in place and it's still missing, the rollout may not have reached your domain yet.
